Sharing sustainable practices at Brownfield Expo

Taking place at the NEC in Birmingham May 20-22, Brownfield Expo is the UK’s national event for discussion and debate for local authorities, property developers, consultants and suppliers of remediation and technology services. It forms part of Sustainability live!, the UK’s most comprehensive event for excellence and innovation in the water, environment, energy and land sectors.

Proving its continuing importance, this year’s Brownfield Expo has the support of the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA), the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC), the Environment Agency and Brownfield Briefing.

Conference and seminar programme
Under the industry leadership of the Brownfield Expo Steering Group, the event encompasses a high-level technical seminar programme running across the three-day show. The themes for the informative and thought-provoking programme presented by well-known industry figures are: legislative and legal issues, technologies for contaminated land, along with risk assessment and insurance.

Taking to the podium this year will be Sam Deacon, senior ecological risk assessment consultant at Environ. With the imminent launch of the ecological risk assessment (ERA) framework, Environ will describe what this means for contaminated land practitioners in the UK. As the former Environment Agency project manager responsible for the development of the framework, Deacon will provide expert insight and explain it in the context of an applied example.

Other speakers will include representatives from Atkins, Contaminated Land: Applications in Real Environments (CL:AIRE), Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (CRA), Environmental Resources Management (ERM) and CON-FORM Contracting.

Exhibiting and attending
Over 450 organisations have already confirmed their presence at the 2008 show making it the UK’s leading environmental event. Those exhibiting at Brownfield Expo include: Aitkens, McArdle Group; Bluesky; Carus Europe; Cleansing Services Group; Geosolutions; Land Science Technologies; Pageotechnical; Regenesis; Parsons Brinckerhoff; and, exhibiting for the first time, LCM Environmental.
