A home for business

Sally Gillborn writes that for businesses looking for top facilities in which to develop, Newark may offer the opportunities that they have been looking for

For those wanting a professional business base but can’t afford the overheads then the award winning Newark Beacon could have just the answer. Newark Beacon is a state-of-the-art business innovation centre that was officially opened in September 2007 by Theo Paphitis, star of the BBC TV series Dragons’ Den.

Offering 27 business units and four workshops, the Beacon is home to a wide variety of tenants ranging from language training, to energy efficiency and marketing and design.

The Beacon really is an inspirational place to work. The centre has recently won two regional regeneration awards as well as two of our tenants, Wilson Energy and Optima Training Ltd, being crowned winners at the Newark Business Awards 2009.
With the effect of the credit crunch, many small businesses are either setting up from home, working on a mobile basis or are down-sizing and giving notice on their office, retail and business units. Generally this is purely to save money and to survive in the current economic climate.

This is obviously a less risky option as it reduces the overheads and running costs. Yet when are vying for new business in an ever-competitive market, many of their potential clients may choose their competitors who have business premises. It gives them the feeling of security if their suppliers have the commitment of a business base.

Yet there are solutions to this problem. Newark Beacon is now offering hot-desking and virtual office facilities as options to its clients. This way, businesses can have all the benefits of being in an impressive business centre, without the physical unit space and the expensive overheads.

Hot-desking is available from £25 a day, £75 a week or £150 a month (plus VAT) for those who would like the use of a telephone, desk and internet connection on an ad hoc basis.

There are two virtual office packages available as well. For just £35 (plus VAT) per month, businesses can gain access to:
- Use of the Newark Beacon postal address and management of all incoming post
- Use of the hub/café area for meetings with clients
- Use of the admin room for photocopying facilities
- Use of the café facilities for lunch and refreshments
- Free listing on the Newark Beacon website
- Reception service to meet and greet visitors

For just £50 (plus VAT) per month, businesses can access all of the above services as well as having
a dedicated telephone line through to the Newark Beacon which will be answered giving the company’s name and offering an answering service facility.

Newark Beacon offers a range of opportunities to help get businesses set –up and heading off in the right direction. Find out what they can do for you.
