In the north of England, Atkins has a specialist Regeneration & Economic Development Team based in Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds and Glasgow offices.

The Team contains specialists in: regeneration; economics; economic development; urban planning; and community development.  Support is drawn in from colleagues in terms of: architecture; urban design; landscape design; property; transport planning; ecology; acoustics; environmental engineering; infrastructure engineering; geotechnics; contaminated land; and geospatial analysis.

In essence, Atkins employ a broad range of specialists in the natural and built environment and can assemble multi-disciplinary teams to assist with regeneration, planning and development projects.

Production of Area Action Plans and Supplementary Planning Documents for local planning authorities in Yorkshire and Staffordshire.

Preparing the Supplementary Planning Document for the Liverpool Waterfront World Heritage Site
Economic Impact Assessments to support the development of football stadia, tourism developments, business parks, transport interchanges and PFI bids for public sector service delivery.

An applied research exercise in the West Midlands to identify what makes a ‘good’ quality employment site and to devise criteria for protecting the best employment sites from development pressure.

Employment land studies in Cumbria, Lancashire, Staffordshire, Yorkshire and throughout the UK.

Feasibility studies to support the development process involving market demand assessments, options appraisals, business planning and design.

Economic analysis and forecasting at various geographic scales including city centres, districts, sub-regions and regions. In Birmingham, they have recently produced an economic model of the city centre linking current and future land use to employment and population change to 2031.

Production of an Enterprise Strategy for an inner-city housing estate in Dublin which is undergoing a comprehensive regeneration process.
