Capital Shopping Centres (CSC) is looking to extend and refurbish three of its shopping centres. Patrick Burgess, chairman, said the company had 1.4m sq ft of identified extension opportunities at existing centres – an equivalent amount to a new major regional shopping centre.
He said extensions to existing prime locations carried attractive returns at lower risk. “In each case, regional planning policies are progressing broadly in line with CSC’s objectives and we anticipate that planning applications will be submitted for two of the three during 2011.” Burgess said CSC estimated, following a review by DTZ, £170-175m of development profit from the three projects. CSC now owns 14 centres including 10 of the UK’s top 25 and four of the UK’s top six out-of-town.
