The London Borough of Hackney has granted Hammerson planning permission for its new Principal Place proposals. The 1.2m sq ft flagship project designed by Foster + Partners will deliver a single 623,000 sq ft, 16-storey office building offering large floor plates and flexibility to occupiers.

Law firm CMS Cameron McKenna has selected Principal Place for its new head office location and Hammerson is in negotiations to provide it with 200,000 sq ft of office space.
A residential tower will offer 243 private flats plus another 56 affordable units will be located on-site. A main square at street level will open up the area with retail units and restaurants. The project also includes the restoration of 233 Shoreditch High Street, known as the Light Bar Building.

David Atkins, Hammerson chief executive, said: “The support from the planning committee signifies the importance of Principal Place in the continued regeneration of Hackney.
“The scheme will deliver high quality office accommodation alongside a landmark residential tower in a convenient, vibrant location.”
