Mark Pitt of the PURE Water Company comments on our changing attitudes to the environment and the consequent effects on the business world

2008-05-20

We are all now fully aware of how our actions are affecting the environment. The pressures for both the public and private sectors to become more eco-friendly in their day-to-day transactions are huge.

In the business world, legislation is now taking a front seat in steering the course of what we buy, how we use it and ultimately how we dispose of it. It is the responsibility of every individual organisation to find ways to promote ways of working that advocate a sound ecological approach; not only to their staff but also to the community.

Recently, the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive was introduced to combat the increasing problems brought about by the disposal of electrical items in both domestic and business situations. The introduction of this legislation makes it clearer than ever that businesses need to be aware of the impact of their particular actions on the outside world and to be accountable for those actions.

All companies are under pressure to attain ISO 14001 and improve their carbon footprint.

No delivery emissions
Did you know over 33,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide are consumed delivering the 2bn litres of bottled water consumed in Britain every year?

With this in mind all of The PURE Water Company’s building systems remove the need for water deliveries to site and thus cut down on traffic congestion and pollution.

Reusable bottles
The hospitality industry generates huge volumes of waste as a result of serving bottled water at meetings, for dining and fulfilling catering commitments.

Most importantly, the disposal of the glass and plastic bottles when they have been used is costly both to the environment and financially.

Most water bottles are made from PET plastic, a crude oil extract that accounts for about 0.25 percent of the world’s annual oil consumption. Of the 10 percent of bottles that are recycled more than half are shipped 13,000 km to be processed in China, producing 500 tonnes of carbon dioxide getting there.

PURE Water removes this waste generation by supplying durable, reusable glass bottles. As well as this bulky plastic and cardboard packaging is eliminated.

Energy efficient
The PURE Water systems produce water that is fresh and chilled eliminating the need for dry storage, large walk-in cold rooms and the numerous smaller refrigerators normally required.

By decreasing the number of machines on site the manufacturing processes required are cut, the disposal costs associated with the WEEE directive are also cut and the removal costs for machinery containing refrigerants are greatly reduced.

In the workplace
Drinking water in the workplace is part of the day-to-day function of any office. Current trends offer a myriad of options when it comes to providing good quality drinking water for staff.

The Pure Water Company provides an alternative to water coolers and bottled table water. These traditional products have huge environmental costs which are avoided by the PURE Water mains fed systems.

Product overview
PURE Link Systems
Our bespoke PURE Link system uses a central cooling and filtration unit normally located in a plant room to supply multiple dispense points throughout a building.

The PURE Link system filters, chills and carbonates your mains water supply and distributes the water in pipe work around your premises.

Dispensing options
The PURE Link system covers all of the drinking water needs in your building and the following types of points can be provided:
- Staff drinking water
- Water bottling (catering and hospitality)
- Public drinking water (reception and waiting areas)

There are a variety of dispense points available to meet the above requirements which can be selected based on aesthetics and suitability for purpose.

Healthy alternative
Our solution positively encourages staff to drink more water. The water is constantly circulated keeping the supply fresh and chilled meaning that there is never an interruption to service.

The capacity of the system also allows people to fill bottles rather than cups, leading to greater water consumption.

Space saving
Using one cooler to supply numerous dispense points allows the floor area traditionally taken up by coolers to be used much more productively. With the high rental value of property and reorganisation of office areas, this is a welcome saving.

Time saving
- No ordering
- No deliveries
- No manual handling
- No storage

Cost savings
PURE Link systems cut the total cost involved in supplying drinking water to your business in the following ways.
Purchasing – Ordering and paperwork
Recycling
Electricity

Security
In today’s world all sites and offices need to be security conscious. With the PURE Link system there is only one cooler to service and this will be in a plant room or basement, not in a potentially sensitive area.

Future proof
If additional dispensing points are required in a building it is very straight forward to branch off the original pipe-work and install extra dispense points. These systems are extremely flexible when expansion is required.

In summary, the PURE Water Company is in a position to advise you on the most suitable solution to meet the needs of your business.
