Urban treasures
The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) saw over 750 entries for its competition to find ‘Areas of Outstanding Urban Beauty’. The entries represent a broad spectrum of urban design from across the country. The winning entry was ‘Galleries Car Park’ in Bristol by Christopher Hoare. Estates Review highlights some of the shortlisted photos the competition had to offer and picks out a few personal favourites.

Hackney Wick: A fantastic photo that shows some sanctuary amongst the usual chaos of London.

Royal Victoria DLR Station: The skill and design that goes into building a station comes alive in this shot.

The galleries car park, Bristol: The winning entry of the competition, the photo captures Bristol’s urban environment in all its beauty through a fun-fair.

Cavalier Hill, Leeds: The supposedly empty Clarence Dock comes alive with footprints in last year’s snowfall.
